"Stay together to beat insurgency, join Army to experience oneness" Army Chief tells students from North-East
A National Integration tour for 27 students from Assam & Arunachal Pradesh accompanied by two teachers, met and interacted with the COAS, Gen Bipin Rawat. The COAS brought out the importance of national integration and shared his experiences from the North Eastern region with the students and motivated them to work hard and contribute actively in the nation building process. He exhorted them to join the Indian Armed Forces and serve the cause of the Nation.
The tour was flagged off from Joypur, Assam on December 26, 2017 and during the course of the tour, participants visited various cultural and historical places in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. This initiative exposed them to various career options and allowed them to interact with prominent personalities.
The National Integration Tours are organised as part of the Indian Army's ongoing outreach programme to foster the spirit of Nation First. These tours are conducted for the youth of J&K and North Eastern States, with an aim to provide an insight into the rich heritage of the country as well as various developmental and industry initiatives that are underway.

DIAV Education Grant for Wards & Widows of Martyred or Disabled Soldiers
The Directorate of Indian Army Veterans (DIAV) provides education grant to the wards and widows of soldiers who die in harness. It also includes suicide cases and there is no bar on number of children. Education Grant is presently available for the academic year 2016-17.
Under this welfare scheme, children studying in Class I to VIII receive a grant of Rs 10,000 and those in Class IX to XII get Rs 14,000. The wards and widows of battle casualties and disabled soldiers who are doing graduation or post graduation, are given Rs 20,000 and 25,000 respectively and those pursuing a professional course, are provided a maximum of Rs 50,000. A one-time Computer Grant of Rs 35,000 is also provided to those pursuing graduation and above.
