The Supreme Commander of Indian Armed Forces, Mrs Pratibha Devisingh Patil, the President of India alongwith Mr AK Antony, Defence Minister, Gen VK Singh, Chief of the Army Staff and
Lt Gen AK Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command visited the forward areas in Desert Sector to witness the Exercise Sudarshan Shakti.
Exercise Sudarshan Shakti is one of the largest military exercises conducted by the Indian Army in the Southern Sector in recent years to validate the concept of an enhanced theatre offensive in a joint service environment as well as operational and transformational effectiveness of Sudarshan Chakra Corps. This is done under the backdrop of the study on transformational and theatrisation of combat and support services of Indian Army for which the Army Chief and Southern Army Commander were the main proponents.
The Supreme Commander reviewed the manoeuvres of the Sudarshan Chakra Corps. During the review, the Supreme Commander alongwith other dignitaries were briefed by Lt Gen AK Singh and Lt Gen Sanjiv Langer, Corps Commander Sudarshan Chakra Corps.The President atop a T-90 tank witnessed the essence of offensive operations in the form of mechanised manoeuvres of the White Tiger Armoured Division. In course her operational tour, the President was apprised and was extremely appreciative of the night fighting capability of armoured vehicles. She was also briefed on Arjun tank. The President, clad in the traditional Armoured Corps black dungarees, enjoyed her operational experience and complimented the troops for their outstanding performance. The President was also provided valuable operational inputs.
The unique feature of this exercise has been the jointmanship between the Southern Army and South Western Air Command (SWAC). The transformational initiatives covered operational, conceptual and structural aspects as also organisational structures for absorption of new-age technologies, particularly in the fields of precision munitions and targeting, advance surveillance systems, space and network-centricity. These were fielded and trial-evaluated during the exercise. The thrust of the transformational initiative aimed Army to emerge as a modern, lean, agile and net-enabled force. In addition, many new concepts like the employment of the Strike Corps Aviation Brigade, fighting against a backdrop of Nuclear Biological Chemical (NBC) environment and tailor-made logistics system to sustain any offensive were also practised and validated.
The President applauded the dedicated efforts of the Southern Army and Sudarshan Chakra Corps in their pursuit of excellence and was enthralled to witness the indomitable spirit of the soldier displayed during the conduct of operational manoeuvres in a realistic environment.
While addressing the troops the President said, "The Indian Army is the pride of our nation and is seen by the nation as a role model." Exercise Sudarshan Shakti would be a major land-mark for the Armed Forces to enhance combat potential,she added.

A delegation of Parliamentarians of India visited Rajasthan and witnessed the exercise Sudarshan Shakti. The MPs, on arrival from Delhi, were taken to the exercise location where the Southern Army Commander, Lt Gen AK Singh provided them an overview of the Southern Theatre. The Strike Corps Commander, Lt Gen Sanjeev Langer apprised the MPs of various aspects of the exercise. The MPs were also taken around the command and control set-up of the Sudarshan Chakra Corps.
The MPs witnessed manoeuvres by the troops and tanks of Southern Army across a formidable obstacle in conjunction with the air effort. The MPs also gained a first-hand experience by visiting the operational tactical level units.
