Special Campaign-2 Drive  in Naval Dockyard Visakhapatnam

          With the vision of ‘Clean Naval Dockyard’ in accordance with the initiative of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Special Campaign 2.0 is being carried out at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam with effect from 02 Oct 22. The campaign is being undertaken in two phases – the Preparatory Phase and the  Implementation Phase. During the Preparatory Phase, an Apex Level meeting was conducted to identify the focus areas as per the aims of the campaign. The areas identified were expeditious disposal of long outstanding public grievances; training of dockyard personnel; implementation of the ‘5S concept’, space management at shop floors, office spaces, and dry docks; disposal of scrap; weeding out of old files, and clean-up drives of shop floors/ office spaces.

        During the Implementation Phase, a workshop on ‘Enhancing Productivity and HR Practices’ to educate Dockyard personnel on total quality management, industrial relations, and safety challenges was conducted. An initiative to implement 5S for an efficient, effective, and safe workspace, has been taken up for six work centers at the Dockyard. Space optimization exercises viz. efficient stowage of dock blocks at Dock Block Stowage Area towards space management in Dry Docks, systematic arrangement of paint drums in Automatic Retrieval & Storage System, storage of critical spares in Motorised Mobile Racking System, and vertical stacking of metal plates for efficient storage & retrieval, were undertaken during this period. Scrap collection and efficient disposal was a key focus area for the Dockyard.

           During the ongoing campaign, 116 tons of mixed metal/ ferrous scrap and 998 files have been disposed of. Cleaning and arranging of shop floors, office spaces, common areas and dry docks are being undertaken to ensure an efficient work environment.
