Inter School Athletics Meet organised by Ace of Spades Gunners to Promote Khelo India and Mission Olympics in Mendhar, Poonch

On National Unity Day, Ace of Spades Gunners organised first ever inter school athletics meet in Mendhar Sub division of Poonch District in J&K. The event was conducted from 31 Oct to 01 Nov 2022. Students from four schools viz Govt GHS School (Mendhar), Govt High School (Upper Dharana), Govt High School (Sakhi Maidan)  participated in the event. Various track and field events which included 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, relay race, Javelin, Discus, Shot-put and Long Jump were conducted. The event was organised to promote Khelo India programme in far flung areas near to Line of Control by introducing students to athletics at school level. It will enable the nation to achieve the ambition of Mission Olympics and establish India as a great sporting nation. The event also helped to promote Nari Shakti by having the participation of girls students in the athletics meet. More than 150 students including 72 girls of different age groups from five schools participated in the event with high spirit and enthusiasm. The event culminated with prize distribution and closing ceremony which was attended by CO, Mendhar Gunners, SDM Mendhar, SDPO Mendhar, ESM with other prominent civilians. Govt High School Sakhi Maidan stood first in boys, Govt Higher Secondary School stood first in girls.  Mohd Yasir from GHS Dharana stood first among the boys and was awarded trophy for best athlete boy. Among the girls, Isharat Choudhary from GGHSS Mendhar stood first and was awarded trophy for best athlete girl. Towards the end, National Integration Pledge was taken by all present at the culmination of the event. This noble initiative of Indian Army in remote areas along Line of Control was highly appreciated by all and it will always be the endeavor of Indian Army to work together with the Awaam for such noble causes.
