Vajra Corps Celebrates Army 2023

Vajra Corps celebrated 75th Army Day on 15 Jan 2023 by paying homage to those who made the supreme sacrifice while safeguarding the sovereignty of the nation in a solemn wreath laying ceremony held at the VajraShaurya Sthal, Jalandhar Cantt. Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, General Officer Commanding, Vajra Corps laid the wreath on behalf of all ranks of the Corps. The General officer Commanding conveyed his best wishes to all ranks, veterans, veer naris and their family members on the occasion and called upon all ranks of Vajra Corps to uphold the glorious traditions of Indian Army and dedicate themselves to the task of protecting and safeguarding the motherland from both internal and external adversaries.
Vajra Corps, also known as Defenders of Punjab, the first Corps to be raised post-independence to defend the strategically and politically valuable areas of Punjab, has taken part in all major military operations since its inception for which its personnel have been conferred upon with 01 Param Vir Chakra, 20 Maha Vir Chakras and 90 Vir Chakras. Vajra Corps has also played an important role in eliminating terrorism from Punjab and has also provided aid to citizens in times of natural calamities and other disasters beside undertaking numerous activities for nation building in Punjab region.
Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year to mark this day of 1949 when Lieutenant General and later Field Marshal K M Cariappa took charge as Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from Lieutenant General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief.Each year on this day, all ranks of the Army, who have set an example of courage and sacrifice, are honoured.
