Coastal Security Awareness Campaign

A coastal security awareness campaign was conducted by a team of Naval Officer-in-Charge, Kerala at Ponnani and Chettuva fishing harbour in Thrissur and Malappuram district respectively on 24 Feb 23. The campaign is part of Indian Navy's initiative to promote awareness on various facets of coastal security and instil a sense of pride amongst the fishing populace. The campaign was undertaken in coordination with the Dept of Fisheries and Coastal Police, Govt of Kerala. During the interaction, the fishermen were briefed regarding their vital role as the 'eyes and ears' of security agencies. Key aspect of safety precautions at sea including search and rescue organisation were also covered.

Active participation by the fishing community was indicative of the enthusiasm and involvement amongst the coastal populace. The interaction was well received by the audience and efforts of Southern Naval Command were acknowledged.
