National Science Day Celebrations at NSTL

 

 

Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL), the premier naval research laboratory of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Visakhapatnam celebrated National Science Day on 28.02.2023 at Mohapatra Manasi Auditorium. National Science Day is being observed every year on February 28, to mark and celebrate invention of ‘Raman Effect’ by Sir C.V.Raman on 28.02.1928.

 

Dr. Y Sreenivas Rao, Outstanding Scientist & Director NSTL; Chief Guest Dr. V Seshu Bai, Professor Emeritus, School of Physics, Central University of Hyderabad; Surgeon Rear Admiral R Ravi, Command Medical officer, Eastern Naval Command offered floral tributes offered to Sir CV Raman. 

 

Dr. (Smt) TVSL Satyavani, Scientist ‘F’ & Chairperson of NSDC-2023 gave welcome address in which she explained how Raman Effect is being used as a powerful characterization tool in many applications.  Chief Guest Dr. V. Seshu Bai delivered an invited talk on “Design of Composite Materials for Technology” and Surgeon Rear Admiral (Dr) R Ravi presented his talk on “Aerospace Medicine”.

                       

Every year, on this occasion, a Silicon Medal is awarded to scientists for their outstanding work in R&D. This year, Mr. P Sumanth, Scientist ‘D’ has been awarded this medal and Commendation Certificate signed by Chairman DRDO for his work on “Validation of Degaussing System Design Process using a Physical Mock up Model.    

 

On this occasion, Transfer of Technology (TOT) of “Mk-II 200 AH Lithium Ion Battery Technology” is handed over to Shri GSN Murthy, GM BEL, Pune.

 

To promote innovations in schools, NSTL provides opportunity to the students of Mrs. Mariyadas UP School to present their invention on “Wireless charging of electric vehicles using Wireless Power Transfer”.  This project was selected from Andhra Pradesh along with the other seven projects which were selected for the next round among 4,000 nominations received all over India for the McMillan Budding Scientist Award 2022-23.

 

To encourage youngsters of working level, a presentation on “Li-Ion Batteries” by Sri Atal Kandhari, Senior Technical Assistant ‘B’ was also organised on this occasion.

 

As part of NSDC-2023, NSTL conducted elocution, essay writing, quiz and painting competitions for 300 students of 25 schools and 15 colleges.  The Celebrations concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of these competitions.
