Indian Coast Guard rescues six fishermen from flooding fishing boat in Arabian Sea off Gujarat Coast

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ship Arush rescued six fishermen from a flooding fishing boat in Arabian Sea off Gujarat Coast on Tuesday, 07 March 2023.

At about 0400 hrs, Indian Coast Guard Ship Arush, on deployment in Arabian Sea received a distress call regarding uncontrolled flooding onboard Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Himalay which was fishing at approx. 80 kms off Gujarat coast. ICG Ship proceeded to the distressed boat with maximum speed. The boat was flooded heavily and partially submerged in water. In attempt to prioritizing lifesaving, the crew was taken onboard ICG Ship. The ICG personnel thereafter attempted to control flooding using submersible pumps, consequently controlling flooding. During deflooding, the ICG personnel observed a hole in the fish storage compartment of the boat which was subsequently repaired. After an arduous effort of more than two hours, the boat was made operational and handed over to the crew.
