Mission Amrit Sarovar: Pond Construction at Lordhiyan Village, Phalodi, Jodhpur

Jaipur, Wednesday, 15 March 2023

 

The government launched Mission Amrit Sarovar on 24 April 2022 to protect, restore and construct lakes/ponds as part of water conservation for future. The mission is a collaborative effort between Government of India, the state Government, various NGOs and volunteers.

 

To make this initiative successful in the Southern Command Zone along the border areas, the Konark Gunners under the aegis of Konark Corps in collaboration with state civil administration, village panchayat and Gram Vikas Samiti had successfully commenced work for the creation of a pond at Lordhiyan village in Phalodi, Rajasthan.

 

The Mission Amrit Sarovar at the said location aims to construct the pond by undertaking a series of measures that include cleaning and desilting of the pond bed, tree plantation and awareness campaigns to educate the public regarding conservation of water. This project is also seen as another step towards providing basic resources to villagers for leadup a better life and strengthen the bonds of trust between the Army and local populace, especially in border areas; simultaneously promoting sustainable development in the region. To commemorate the beginning of the work of pond construction, Bhumi Pujan was organised on 14 March 23.
