Further, the Government has approved an initiative to open new Sainik schools across the country in partnership mode with NGOs/Private/State Government schools in all States/UTs subject to fulfilment of qualifying requirements and signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Sainik Schools Society. Towards this, till date Sainik Schools Society/Ministry of Defence, after due process of evaluation and approval, has signed Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with 18 schools. The details of these 18 new Sainik schools State/UT-wise and district-wise are as follows:

In so far as Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh, Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh and Shahdol Parliamentary constituency in Madhya Pradesh is concerned, no applications have been received from any NGOs/Private/State Government schools located there. However, two applications each have been received from Dahod in Gujarat and Amravati Parliamentary Constituency which are subject to approval based on meeting of qualifying requirements framed for the purpose and agreeing to the approval by-laws and signing of Memorandum of Agreement by the Sainik Schools Society with the school.
The total number of applications received for opening of new Sainik schools in Round-1 is 379 out of which, Sainik Schools Society, after due process of evaluation and approval of the Ministry of Defence, has signed Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with 18 schools. In Round-2, Sainik Schools Society has received 261 updated (from Round-1) and 88 fresh applications which are subject to approval based on meeting of qualifying requirements framed for the purpose, compliance to the approved by-laws and signing of Memorandum of Agreement with Sainik Schools Society.
