Indian Coast Conducts Special Community Interaction with Fishermen at Mori Bandar

Indian Coast Guard conducted special Community Interaction Program (CIP) on 28 April 2023 with members of India Meteorological Department (IMD), Wildlife Trust department, Fisheries department, owners and local fishermen at Mori Bandar, Okha to sensitize fishermen not to operate Fishing Boats across International Maritime Border and not to carry out fishing in No Fishing Zone. The CIP was also aimed to create awareness amongst fishermen community about safety of life and property at sea. 

During the interaction, fishermen were sensitized on importance of carriage of lifesaving appliances and equipment, sustainable fishing, preventing marine litter, basic first aid techniques, survival techniques and use of technology in marine safety. 

IMD representative briefed the fishing community about the forthcoming monsoon and various signs of cyclonic weather. Local populace were also briefed about uses of millets (Shree Anna).

Government of India and Indian Coast Guard initiatives on fishermen safety and security including integration of fishing community in coastal security architecture was also discussed.
