Indian Coast Guard Conducts Special Community Interaction Programme at Bharana and Bedi Village

Indian Coast Guard Station Vadinar conducted a Special Community Interaction Programme at Bharana & Bedi village, on 04 May 2023, in presence of Fisheries Department, Indian Meteorological Department, Forest Department and Marine Police. The event was conducted in Gujarati and Hindi languages and attracted active participation of large number of fishermen. 

The interaction focused on educating the fishermen about the importance of carrying valid documents and lifesaving gears while venturing, especially during the adverse weather conditions prior and during SW monsoon. Carriage of Distress Alert Transmitter (DATs) and seeking assistance of Coast Guard whenever in distress was emphasised. The fishermen were advised not to venture at sea during the fishing ban period except for the non-motorised boats. 

The fishermen community was also informed regarding Search and Rescue (SAR) Help Line Toll Free Number 1554 for assistance at sea. Demonstrations undertaken on donning of Life Jackets and proper usage of Lifebuoys was received with enthusiasm by the community. 

As part of the International Year of the Millets-2023, the fishermen community was apprised to include Millets in daily meals and were educated on its health benefits.
