Indian Coast Guard Conducts Community Interaction With Fishermen at RK Bandar, Okha
Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 15 (North Gujarat) conducted a Special Community Interaction Programme (CIP) at RK Bandar, Okha on 08 May 2023 in presence of representatives of Fisheries Department, Forest Department, Indian Meteorological Department, Marine Police Okha and Fisheries association members. The aim of the CIP was to create awareness amongst fishermen community about safety of life and property at sea during monsoon.
The event witnessed an active participation of approx. 80 fishermen which was conducted in Gujarati and Hindi language. The Programme aimed to educate the fishermen about the importance of carrying valid documents, Online Token Management System and carriage of lifesaving gears while venturing into sea. Further, IMD representative briefed the fishing community about the forthcoming monsoon and various signs of cyclonic weather. Practical demonstrations were undertaken on donning of Life Jackets, CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) and correct usage of Lifebuoys. Fishing community were also informed regarding Search and Rescue (SAR) Helpline Toll Free Number 1554 for seeking SAR assistance at sea.
As part of International Year of the Millet-2023, the fishermen community was apprised to include millets in daily meals and its health benefits.
