Training for Indian Coast Guard by the US Coast Guard

Maritime Advanced Boarding Course, conducted for the officers of Indian Coast Guard (ICG) by Mobile Training Team (MTT) of the US Coast Guard (USCG) has culminated on 12 May 23. The 12-day long advanced level training, imparted by from USMTT focused on procedures to be adopted during compliant and non-compliant boarding, drug interdiction, anti-smuggling,  anti-human trafficking operations and other such maritime security challenges likely to be faced at sea. The training schedule included theoretical as well as practical aspects with mock simulations conducted for trainees onboard Coast Guard ships. Officers drawn from all 5 Regional Commands of Indian Coast Guard attended the training. A closing ceremony, jointly presided by Ms. Virsa Perkins, Political/Economic Chief at U.S. Consulate General, Chennaiand DIG Satish Kumar TM, Chief of Staff at Coast Guard Regional Headquarters East, was held at Coast Guard Air Station, Chennai.

This training by USMTT aimed to equip ICG officers with advanced level techniques to conduct efficient boarding operations. The training forms part of continued cooperation between the two maritime security agencies towards promoting safer seas especially in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) thus promoting maritime trade and preventing unlawful activities at sea.
