Inter School Athletics Meet Organised By Indian Army In Mendhar, Poonch To Boost Khelo India and Mission Olympics
On the occasion of National Sports Day, Indian Army organized its second "Inter School Athletics Meet" in the Mendhar Sub-division of Poonch .The schools that participated in this esteemed event were Govt High School, Upper Dharana, Govt High School, Sakhi Maidan, Govt Middle School, Lower Dharana, Govt Middle School, Ari and Govt Middle School, Kote Masjid. The meet encompassed a variety of track and field events, including the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 800m relay race, Discus, Shot-put, Triple Jump, and Long Jump. This initiative was undertaken to emphasize the significance of the Khelo India programme in remote regions, particularly those adjacent to the Line of Control.
By introducing athletics at the school level, the aim is to further the Mission Olympics and position India as a formidable sports nation. Highlighting the commitment to gender equality and women empowerment, a notable part of the event was the participation of female students, underscoring the concept of "Nari Shakti." In total, over 150 eager students, comprising 72 girls from various age groups, took part with unbridled enthusiasm. The event concluded with a prize distribution and a closing ceremony graced by the principals of the four schools and esteemed civilians. Govt High School, Upper Dharana emerged overall victorious. The trophy for the best male athlete was awarded to Mr Mohammed Amim of Govt Middle School, Kote Masjid, and among the females, Ms Aliza of Govt High School Upper Dharana was recognized as the best athlete. In a touching gesture, all attendees took the National Integration Pledge, reflecting unity and shared purpose. The Indian Army's commendable effort in fostering community engagement in the distant regions along the Line of Control was universally lauded. Such initiatives underpin the Army's continuous commitment to collaborate with the local populace for noble objectives.
