The Flying Instructors' School (FIS) at Air Force Station, Tambaram Celebrates Platinum Jubilee

 

On completion of 75 glorious years in the service of the nation, the Flying Instructors' School (FIS) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) located at Air Force Station, Tambaram will be celebrating the Platinum Jubilee on 03 and 04 November 2023. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari shall be gracing the celebrations, spanned over two days. Large number of serving and retired alumni of this prestigious institution are also joining the celebrations. On this momentous occasion, an International Pilot Training Symposium, unveiling of a Smrithi Sthal, and aerial display including the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) and various other events are planned.

 

Flying Instructors' School was established at Ambala on 01 April 1948 with Tiger Moth aircraft (1948-54) and Harvard aircraft (1948-71). On 10 Oct 1954, FIS moved to its present location at Air Force Station, Tambaram. A premier flying training establishment with a rich history of instructional flying spanning over 75 years, FIS conducts the Qualified Flying Instructors Course (QFIC) for pilots of the IAF, other services, and pilots from friendly foreign countries.
