Surya Command Mountaineers Flagged in After Summiting Fifth Highest Peak in Uttarakhand
A Mountain Expedition team from Surya Command was flagged in at HQ Central Command by Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C, Central command on 9 Oct 2023, after summiting Mt. Mana, Uttarakhand. The peak had not been summited since 2006 before this expedition. Mana Peak is the fifth highest peak in Uttarakhand located at an altitude of 7274 meters in the Garhwal Himalayas. The team of 18 Surya Warriors backed by extensive physical and mental conditioning started the ascent to Mount Mana on 28 Aug 2023. The team covered more than 40 KM and crossed three Glaciers enroute facing peculiar and unpredictable weather conditions among other odds. The final summit was executed in very short window of four days calculated using local weather analysis. It took 13 hrs of continuous climb at 19000 feet and above. Finally, the team reached the zenith and returned successfully. The Indian Mountaineering Federation has classified Mt Mana under ‘High Risk’ category. The Army Commander praised the team members for displaying high standards of soldiering, exceptional courage, and indomitable spirit in achieving this challenging feat.
